ATIS Creates New Solutions for Content on Demand Across the Internet and DRM Interoperability
The ATIS IPTV Interoperability Forum (IIF) has released two new standards. One will help expand viewers' IPTV options beyond their service provider's offerings to encompass a host of new Web-based video content. The IPTV Content on Demand Service (ATIS-0800042) standard, updates a previous version of this standard to accommodate access to content sourced not only from within the service provider, but also from across the Internet directly from the content provider. The other new standard, IPTV DRM Interoperability Requirements (ATIS-0800001) establishes requirements for security solutions for IPTV, including new requirements for secure download, device identity and authentication, and subscriber authentication. ATIS Technical Report Addresses Two Key Aspects of Telepresence: Interoperability and Interconnectivity
ATIS’ Cloud Services Forum (CSF) announces the release of a Technical Report entitled Cloud Framework for Telepresence Service (ATIS-0200005), providing a high-level architecture and deployment models addressing two key aspects of a telepresence service: interoperability and interconnectivity. This is an evolving document establishing a foundation for the development of a product-agnostic, global telepresence solution for true interoperability. GENBAND’s Fred Kemmerer Named Chair of ATIS TOPS Council
Join ATIS in welcoming Fred Kemmerer, CTO, GENBAND, as the new chair of the ATIS Technology and Operations (TOPS) Council. Elected to the position by the ATIS board, Kemmerer is an experienced telecommunications executive with a broad background in a variety of technologies, including Wireless, IP and Multiservice Switching and Routing, Next Generation Core Networks and Broadband Access. As GENBAND’s CTO, he is responsible for setting the company’s strategic technical direction. Prior to GENBAND, Kemmerer held a broad range of positions at Lucent and then Alcatel-Lucent.
ATIS Issues Major Network Optimization Recommendations
To help alleviate the growing demand for bandwidth, the ATIS Network Optimization Focus Group released a report that contains major recommendations for helping networks become more efficient at handling traffic growth while maintaining a high quality of experience for end-users. Specific network optimization actions may impact how and when traffic is routed, policed, shaped and prioritized, and may include employing optimization functions such as caching, TCP optimization, signaling proxies, video rate adaptation/compression, or buffer management techniques. ATIS Launches Focus Group to Address Opportunities in the Emerging M2M Field
ATIS launched the Machine-to-Machine (M2M) Focus Group to analyze seizing core opportunities through standards work for communications solutions as they pertain to M2M as well as Smart Grid and the connected vehicle. An initiative of ATIS’ Technology and Operations Council, The focus group will work on several use cases that involve vehicle data, smart electric meters and other information to assess standards issues.
